Surviving another Winnipeg winter is something we all think about at some point in January or February. For most of us, February is a difficult month as we are in the midst of battling the winter blues (A.K.A. Seasonal Affective Disorder). So why not combine as many approaches as possible to get us through what’s left of the winter! True, it’s been a significantly milder winter this year, but we’re still left pining for the longer hours of daylight.

What better way to fight the lack of light than with light itself? Below I have included information on light therapy, including a special offer for Physique patients.

With the help of everyone on your wellness team, your psychologist, massage therapist, personal trainer, dietitian, etc. you will emerge victorious, happy and healthy, ready for surviving another Winnipeg winter.

Surviving Winnipeg Winters With The Power of Touch

If you have had a massage before, you know that it is an effective treatment for reducing pain, stress and muscle tension. Some lesser known benefits of massage include:

  • Digestive disorders
  • Soft tissue strains or injuries
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Sports injuries
  • Headaches
  • Insomnia related to stress

These are just some of the physical benefits of seeing a massage therapist. Since we are focusing on body AND mind this month (and surviving another Winnipeg winter), it is fitting that I mention some of the mental perks of massage:

  • Reduces anxiety in a number of conditions, including patients with cancer, chronic pain and psychiatric patients
  • Significantly reduces depression and acute fatigue
  • Reduces work-related stress
  • Positively affects the body’s biochemistry to treat anxiety

It is important to understand that massage therapy on its own can be an effective treatment for some, while for others it acts as a complement to traditional medical treatments.

Let There Be Light Therapy

Surviving a Winnipeg winter includes tackling SAD head on! Light therapy has been proven to be an effective way to battle symptoms of S.A.D., including improving your mood and making you feel more energized in the morning.

Sit comfortably in our space and soak up the “sun” while you take time for yourself to meditate, read an article, write in your journal or sip your coffee. A regular session lasts 10 minutes which you can add on to your massage.
